Decorating Freedom
We have all heard the adage "Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder". It may sound corny, but the truth is, we all need to own up to whom we are and what we like and then have the courage to live the way we want, with the things we love! It's all about freedom, decorating freedom!
Nothing is more fun and rewarding than decorating your home.....making it beautiful, making it you! We all need to create a comfortable, warm, inviting home for ourselves, our families and our friends.
We should be able to feel warm, cozy and safe in our our homes. People often say they don't feel relaxed in their own homes and can't figure out why! It could be as simple as the color of the room or the way the furnishings are arranged!
Do you know what your decorating style is? Now, before you say Traditional, Country, Contemnor or "Gee, I don't know!", let's take a minute and talk about style.
First and foremost, decorating style is not meant to put a label on you. It is not a matter of following fashion or impressing people. Decorating style is a matter of being yourself...... your most beautiful, creative self!
It's taking your tastes, personality and possessions and showing them in the best way possible. When you discover your personal, decorating style, your home will reflect more of whom you are and what you love. It will also bring joy, peace and harmony to you, your family and your friends!
It is important to think about what you really want your home to be.... what feeling, what style and what kind of arrangement. You don't need to start from scratch. You already have some furniture, art and accessories that you love...that's were you start. Here is an exercise that can help. First, go window shopping to get fresh ideas. Then on the way home stop and pick up several decorating magazines. Now, pour yourself a cup of tea or a glass of wine and get cozy with your magazines! Go through them and tear out anything that catches your eye. It could be a wall color, a theme, a fabric, a color combination or maybe a tablescape. Anything that sings to you! Once you finish with your tearouts, look for a common, recurring elements. Study your choices carefully and you will discover your personal sense of decorating!
Keep in mind, style is not only what you have but what you do with what you have! This is what Decorating Freedom is all about!
